Oral Presentation Preparation Information

This page provides information for people who are making oral presentations at the DOE Hydrogen Program 2023 Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meeting (AMR).

Oral presenters will generally be allotted 30 minutes total—20 minutes for the prepared presentation followed by 10 minutes for questions and answers. Time limits will be strictly enforced. (Note: A few presentations are assigned a duration longer than 30 minutes; this will be noted in your presentation request from ORAU.)

See a general overview of the review process.

Creating Your Oral Presentation

As an oral presenter, you are required to create the following files.

  • A PowerPoint file that will be used for presentation at the AMR. For projects funded by DOE's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office, this file must be created in PowerPoint following the instructions, format, and guidelines referenced in the applicable presentation template. Content requirements have been slightly modified from the 2022 AMR template, so please take note of the changes.

Download the applicable presentation template for your project (please follow this template unless instructed otherwise in your invitation letter):

  • An Adobe PDF file of your PowerPoint presentation. Once your PowerPoint presentation is complete, you must follow the instructions and guidelines within the oral presentation template to create this file. Review your PDF file to confirm that all content from your PowerPoint file was completely captured within the PDF during conversion. The PDF including the Reviewer-Only slides will be made available to reviewers in PeerNet if applicable. A PDF version without PowerPoint animations, videos, or Reviewer-Only slides will be available for attendees at the meeting and posted on the Hydrogen Program website after the meeting.

Name your PowerPoint and PDF files using the name provided to you in your original notification email: (proj#)_(PI last name)_2023_o.

Do not include any information that is proprietary or confidential in your presentation. Make sure any material used from subcontractors and project partners meets this criterion. If copyrighted material is included, it must be used with permission and attributed properly. Please submit the written copyright permission along with the presentation.

If your PowerPoint file contains videos for purposes of presentation, it is critical you follow the instructions within the presentation template for embedding them into your presentation.  Otherwise, they may not play correctly at the AMR.

Submitting Your Oral Presentation

Deadline extended! Submit your oral presentation to ORAU by April 14, 2023.

To submit your presentation, please use this Google Form to upload the PowerPoint and PDF files for your presentation: DOE Hydrogen Program 2023 AMR Presentation Submission Form.

If you have any issues with the submission form, request an alternative delivery option by sending an email to ORAU at H2AMR@orau.org.

ORAU will review your presentation after it is submitted and will contact you if changes are needed. If you plan to include review cycles with the DOE manager overseeing your project, please make sure those review cycles are completed before submitting the presentation to ORAU.

Once your presentation has been approved by ORAU, you will receive an email from ORAU with more information about presenting at the AMR.

Please note that updated presentations will not be accepted at the AMR. Project achievements made after the April 14, 2023, submission deadline may be presented verbally.

Schedule Overview

Presenters will be notified via email with the times and dates of their oral presentations. In addition, the agenda page provides the time and date for each presentation. Please refer to it frequently as information is subject to change.

At the Review Meeting

All oral presenters are strongly encouraged to attend the AMR meeting in person or to send a designated presenter if the invited principal investigator cannot attend. If you have any questions about the process or have any special needs, please contact ORAU at H2AMR@orau.org.

Oral presentations will be preloaded on laptops in each session room. Personal laptops and/or updated presentations will not be allowed at the time of presentation. Each session will be moderated by DOE and ORAU staff, who will enforce time limits and facilitate Q&A. Your microphone will be muted once you have reached your time limit.

Speaker Ready Stations will be available during the AMR for testing and presentation review. The location and hours for the Speaker Ready Stations will be provided to you as the meeting approaches.

A link to your presentation PDF will be included on the AMR's virtual meeting platform.

After the Review Meeting

All presentations (oral and poster) will be posted in the AMR presentation database on the Hydrogen Program website after the AMR. A report containing the results of the Program and subprogram reviews will be published on the Hydrogen Program website approximately three to four months following the AMR.
